How to create a return label for an order
Any order can get a return shipment with its own label — handy when a customer asks to send something back and you don't use the returns portal. The label is created with the return carrier you configured for the country the order was shipped to.
- 1
Before you start: the country the order was shipped to needs a Return carrier and a Return method under Shipping → Returns. Without them Create Return fails — see how to set up return shipping for each country.
- 2
Open the order from the Orders page.
- 3
On the Shipping card, click Add Shipment to open the Shipments window.
- 4
Click Create Return.
- 5
The new return shipment appears in the table with its status and tracking code.
- 6
Click Download to save the return label PDF, or Print to send it to your label printer.
Good to know
- Create Return never falls back to the carrier that delivered the parcel. If the destination country is not configured you get Returns from XX are not configured. Pick a return carrier and method for it under Shipping → Returns. and no shipment is created — nothing to clean up, just configure the country and click the button again.
- It is the same per-country configuration the returns portal uses, so a country you set up for portal returns already works here.
- The same window's Extra Shipment button creates an additional outbound shipment (e.g. a second parcel), and Recreate regenerates the primary shipment.
- Auto-return labels that go out inside the parcel are a separate, older feature configured per carrier under Shipping — see the automatic returns guide.
- Create Return works on every plan, LABELS included. Customer-initiated returns are handled on the Returns Portal page instead, and that page is PRO-only — so on LABELS this window is how return labels get made.
