How to pack orders using Pick and Pack
Pick and Pack is OrderKrab's guided packing workflow: it walks you through the fulfillment queue order by order, confirms items by barcode scan, and prints each label automatically - roughly 3× faster than manual fulfillment. This guide covers the whole routine: starting a session, scanning and packing, and finishing up. Prefer to see it in action first? Watch the Pick and Pack demo video.
- 1
Get the station ready. Check the sidebar shows PrintKrab: Active and Label Printer: Ready, and have your barcode scanner at hand. Start Pick and Pack on the Dashboard is disabled, and names the reason, while PrintKrab isn't running, the printer is offline, or an unfinished fulfillment is still active.
- 2
Start a session. Click the big Pick and Pack button at the top of the sidebar (or Start Pick and Pack on the Dashboard).
- 3
Filter and sort the queue (optional). The Pick and Pack filters window opens with every Stores, Carriers and Locations tile selected - untick tiles to narrow the queue, or use Select all / Clear all on a group. When both queues have orders, Order status lets you pack Pending Fulfillment or the Skipped orders. More filters adds tags, item count and made-to-order (see the notes). Pick the Sort order (Oldest first or Newest first); the button counts the matching orders as you go - click Start packing N orders.
- 4
The first order loads full-screen with its items listed under SCAN OR CLICK ITEM TO CONFIRM. Pick each item off the shelf and scan its barcode/SKU (or click it) - one scan confirms one unit, and the pending quantity counts down. Confirmed items collect in the Shipment 1 block of the Confirmed Items column. For lines with many units, use Confirm all to confirm the whole line at once.
- 5
The label prints automatically once every item is confirmed - the status pill switches to SCAN LABEL TO COMPLETE FULFILLMENT. Pack the items into the parcel and stick on the label. Order too big for one box? Click Box is full, add new shipment before the last item - see how to pack an order into several shipments.
- 6
Scan the printed shipping label to complete the order - the next order in the queue loads by itself. (You can also click COMPLETE AND LOAD NEXT.)
- 7
Repeat until the queue is empty. Something missing? Click Skip Order and keep going - skipped orders wait for you with the Skipped status. Need context mid-order? The Comments and Shipments buttons in the top bar show notes and the order's shipments without leaving the flow; Reset reloads the order and clears what you've confirmed, and Settings changes the colours of the quantity boxes.
- 8
Finish up. On your last order click COMPLETE AND EXIT. Then hand the parcels to your carrier. If your carrier supports it, generate a manifest or schedule a courier pickup from the Shipping page.
Good to know
- Watch the full workflow in the Pick and Pack demo video - or click the video card above.
- More filters narrows the queue further. Only orders with these tags keeps orders that carry any of the tags you pick, and Hide orders with these tags leaves them out - tags match exactly, capital letters included, and WooCommerce orders have no tags. Items in order picks Single item (exactly one item in the order) or Single product (one product, any quantity), and Made-to-order keeps only orders that went through production. The badge on More filters counts the active ones. Your tag choices are remembered in this browser for your user and organization; the other filters reset each time the window opens.
- The Locations tiles appear only when Show location on order items and filters is on in Settings → General, and the Stores tiles only when you have more than one store.
- Nothing to pack? The window says No orders to pack right now with a Go to orders button, and lists what is holding orders back: N orders need a fix (Fix orders opens the Needs Attention orders) and N orders are waiting for a shipping method (View orders).
- To pack one specific order, open it and click Fulfill in Pick and Pack - single mode skips the queue.
- If a previous session left an order Being Fulfilled, resolve it first - the Dashboard shows an active fulfillment banner with a shortcut.
- Clicked the sidebar Pick and Pack button before the station was ready? A Pick and Pack window says what's missing, with Get PrintKrab to download the app or Open Printer setup to pick a printer; if the browser is blocking PrintKrab, it explains how to allow it. Start PrintKrab while the window is open and, once a printer is selected, it changes to PrintKrab is ready with a Start packing button.
- Scan feedback: an unknown code shows Unrecognized barcode, an already-confirmed item shows Item already confirmed!, and the wrong label shows Wrong shipping code. A Labels Printed badge in the top bar warns if the order's label was already printed before - check for duplicates.
- With No-scan mode on in Settings → General, items don't need confirmation - the label prints when the order loads and the items are shown as a read-only picking sheet. The cooldown between scans is configurable in Settings → General → Scanner delay between scans.
- With Create shipments in advance on (Settings → General → Shipping Label controls), the shipment is registered with the carrier as soon as the order is ready to pack, so the label prints the moment the last item is confirmed.
- Some items not on the shelf? With a scanner, Ship only this shipment sends what is packed and splits the rest off into a new part of the order - see how to ship part of an order.
- A red REC badge in the top bar means the packing camera is filming this order - see how to film your packing.
- Pick and Pack is a PRO plan feature (included in the FREE plan) and needs PrintKrab with a connected label printer.
- Teams that pre-collect items with Pick Slips pack even faster - the picker gathers, the packer scans and ships.
